De Beers posted a massive $511 million underlying EBITDA loss for 2025—a twentyfold increase from the previous year—driven by weak demand and competition from lab-grown diamonds. Parent company Anglo American recorded a $3.7 billion net loss, driven by a $2.3 billion impairment that slashed the diamond unit's value.
In just ten short years, lab-grown diamonds have come from nowhere to being the fastest-growing category in the jewelry market today.
Lab growns withstood the mined diamond interest’s attempt to delegitimize the category to being recognized as real as anything that comes out of the ground. And because carat-for-carat they are priced about 30% below mined diamonds, consumers are driving demand for this new precious stone.

A 552-carat yellow diamond was recently unearthed in Canada.
Mining company Dominion Diamond Mines said in a press release on Thursday the diamond was discovered in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada's Northwest Territories.
The "astonishing gemstone" measures 33.74 millimeters by 54.56 millimeters, the company said.

So an interesting turn of events happened while giving a friendly tour of my home to the C.E.O of Icebox&Co. While strolling through my dinning room he was captivated by the swirls in my chandelier. These swirls formed what looked like a small cage and he commented how beautiful it would look as a Pendant with something hanging inside. This is a brilliant designer in his own right with over forty five years experience in the jewelry business so believe me when he talks, I listen.
